Colours and style: A huge range of colours available, nearly every colour in the rainbow, except blue. Tulip Peony refers to a special variety of tulips which have double petals. Therefore these tulips are larger with many petals resembling peonies. Some have smooth standard petals and some have ruffled petals.
Features: Tulips have a curved teardrop shaped flower with no fragrance and their stems are smooth with large green leaves. They are the only flower that when cut their stem continues to grow in length.
Shelf life and storage: Re-cut stems and place in fresh water. Keep cool, as they will open quickly in warm weather, in cool conditions Tulips last around a week.
Season: Locally they are best available in winter (June, July, August). Imports can be available at other times through out the year.
Use: Tulips are a lovely choice as a bunch on their own or mixed in with other blooms. They are often requested for weddings and also popular for birthdays and anniversaries.
